Ryan Hanson

Coaching Experience:

2021 - Present: Head Women's Goalkeeper Coach at Wake FC

2017 - Present: Head Goalkeeper Coach at Accelerator School

2018 - 2022: Head Goalkeeper Coach at Division 1 Campbell University.

During his time at Campbell they won the conference title 5 times and qualified for the College Cup twice. In 2019, Hanson was a member of the United Soccer Coaches South Region Staff of the Year. Hanson mentored Edu Rodriguez, who led the Big South in goals-against average (0.94) and ranked second in shutouts (6) while playing all but 15 minutes in the Camel goal during his first season as a starter.  Rodriguez finished 11th in the country with 1915 goalkeeper minutes played and allowed more than one goal only four times in 21 starts.

Hanson mentored Camel keeper Samuel Lechuga, who led the Big South Conference and ranked 10th in the country in shutouts, 18th nationally in goals-against average (0.77) in 2019 and set a school career GAA record (0.94) before graduating in 2021.

In his first year with the program, Hanson helped guide the Camels to a Big South Conference title and the program’s first berth in the NCAA College Cup since 2007.

College:

  • University of North Carolina at Pembroke (2010-2014) Four-year goalkeeper at NCAA Division II UNC Pembroke. During his first three seasons, he made 53 appearances, posted a 24-19-8 record and recorded 12 shutouts. Hanson earned All-Peach Belt Conference honors in 2011, NCCSIA All-State recognition in 2012 and six Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week awards. As a junior, he ranked 16th nationally in goals-against average and helped lead UNCP to 12 victories and the second round of the NCAA Tournament—its deepest postseason run in a decade.
